This is a book club devoted to works of serious fiction, generally written before 1970 (with allowances made for very serious writers who've published more recently -- Roth, Lessing, you get the idea).
The objective here is to get as many smart, insightful, passionate, and hopefully personable lovers of serious literature as possible in the same room on a predictable schedule to share insights on the great books of the ages.
Each month, a different member of the group will propose a title and a discussion location. After four weeks, we'll meet to discuss. Both the book selection and the venue are at the discretion of the person who selects the book, but it'd be ideal if the organizer attempted to build consensus.
Let's get together on a Monday night and discuss Ernest Hemingway's A Farewell to Arms.
Please note that I am moving to the latter part of the month this month to accommodate folks who have previously been unable to attend earlier in the month. Note also that we're moving the venue back to the Caffe Vita for this month.
“ It was enjoyable. People obviously put a lot of thought into examining the book. ”
“ I really enjoyed our discussion and particularly getting to meet several new participants. It was a great conversation. ”
