26 Meetup Groups match “Classics” near Chapel Hill, NC
Meet kindred classic literature aficionados in a local Book Club! Our focus will be classic British literature, primarily 19th century. From the genteel elegance of Jane Austen's world to the seamy underside of Arthur Conan Doyle's and Charles Dickens' London, we'll read and discuss it all. Henry James, William Thackeray, the Brontës, Thomas Hardy, Lewis Carroll, G. Bernard Shaw, and Oscar Wilde are just some of the many other authors from whom we have to choose. For comparison, we also may read …
There are many book clubs. This group reads literary classics...books that have stood the test of time. So we'll never read the hot new thing...we'll read books that are 10-10,000 years old but are still in print. We'll read Homer, Dante, Salinger, Faulkner, Flannery O'Connor, John Kennedy Toole, Alice Walker, Shakespeare. Great authors, great books. We'll read fiction, poetry, drama, folk tales, philosophy. We'll discuss what we read over wine or coffee. Sound fun?
If you never leave your house without a book, or if you feel guilty about not having read things, but don't know where to start, this is the group for you! We'll read classics and modern classics, because a) they tend to be really good, or really important, or both. b) they tend to be aimed at grown-ups. and c) they tend to be cheap. Which is important.

We are a group of folks that love to get together and play classical chamber music, particularly string quartets. Rather than be "one of a crowd" in an orchestra, in a quartet, you OWN your part! We are looking for folks that can sightread well enough to play a Mozart quartet without exploding. Events will be scheduled with the pieces identified ahead of time, but one never knows where things will go.

GONE FISHIN' -- This group closed in 2009 due to waning interest by the members. No new events will be scheduled. No new members will be accepted. After the final installment "HP and the Deathly Hallows" was published, most people simply lost their enthusiasm for the Potterverse. Someone else started another HP group in Winston-Salem in 2010, but it only had a few events. I have purged this group's membership list and have kept this site only for archive purposes. We had a GREAT time for 2 years …

Meet local strategy board game players, and make new friends! We get together often at local gaming stores and at members' private homes to play a variety of strategy games. We are happy to teach strategy games to new members. Please note that we do not play party games nor classic games such as Monopoly or Checkers. The strategy games that we play are not hard per se, but they do require analytical thinking, and some take as long as 30 minutes to learn and 2 hours to play. These games are quite …
