We are a group of dedicated classics readers who enjoy a book for the overall experience and don't take ourselves too seriously. In other words there are no English professor types. We really just want to read the books that are considered classics so we know what's going on and what they're all about. We look forward to meeting anyone and everyone who wants to take part in discussions of great books.
We are a social group that attends a variety of films together--indie, arthouse, foreign, documentaries, classics, and occasionally popular films. After a movie, we often gather at a café or restaurant for casual conversation about the movie, about other movies, and other topics. Please read our "About" page to learn more about the group and its guidelines and rules.
Each month, we will choose a new book based upon the curiosities of group members. Selections can range from Steinbeck to Faulkner to Roth, and anything in between. Time period constrictions are not firm, so if there is a book you'd like to suggest, it is of course acceptable. The main objective of the group is to expand interests and knowledge, and hopefully foster interesting conversations with new friends.

Philosophy can be one of the most sublime or the most trivial of human pursuits. What are some of the definitions of philosophy? One classic notion might be the pursuit of wisdom, or sophia, studying about fundamental concerns of life and world such as existence, truth and essence. The modern academic definition might be the study about how to think and know systematically and correctly, by the proper use of logic, reason, and language--rigorous scientific and analytic philosophy. We have even …

I decided to start this group because I want to find string players who live in South King County and on the Eastside, and who want to play chamber music with me. I play violin, and will play Violin I or II, depending. I also play piano. My idea is that we meet every other week on a weeknight, or in the day (as I am retired). We can meet at my house every time or we can trade off. I do not have music but we can get music. Who should join: violists, celloists, violinists who have skills enough to …

This meet up is a free one-day experiential workshop introducing men to the work of The Mankind Project (www.mkp.org). The ManKind Project flies in the face of rigid stereotypes about the "Sensitive New Age Man" AND the "Macho Man". We ask men to go right up to the edge - and beyond it - in a culture that seems to be comfortable with mediocrity and passivity from men. We ask men to stop living a vicarious adventure through their TV's and step into a real time adventure to win back their passio …
